How Successful is Agile?

successful in Agile

As the world becomes increasingly more competitive, the need for cost effective solutions to fulfill an organisation’s needs are growing. A recently conducted survey revealed some interesting emerging and ongoing trends in the Agile world.

71% of the companies employing Agile stated the reason for this usage was in order to reduce project costs while 21% reported a reduction in project cost to be the major positive change observed after the employment of Agile. Other notable reasons for adopting Agile, as indicated by companies, included increasing productivity (51%), improving team morale (34%), and reducing project risk (28%). Agile has many benefits that follow its adoption by companies.

Measuring Success through Agile:

While the benefits of Agile are often touted as reasons to adopt the software, the success following its usage speaks volumes. The three main indicators for measuring success are Customer/User satisfaction, Business values, and On-time Delivery. Industries reported in many survey that they used these indicators the most with 52%, 48%, and 41% usage respectively.

Main Issues of Agile:

The main issues faced with implementing Agile were due to organisational structure that was at odds with Agile values, an issue that has been highlighted several times over the past. Other factors that caused this bottleneck in development included general resistance of an organisation to change, inadequate management support and sponsorship, as well as lack of skills and experience with Agile.

Moving towards Success

Workers indicated that the fastest way to align a company’s vision with Agile’s core values were to hire internal Agile coaches, encourage executive sponsorship, involve employees in company provided training programs, focus on consistent practices and processes across teams, and implement common tools across the teams.

In short, Agile has many inherent benefits which encourage its usage and adoption across all sorts of industries. Answering the question of ‘How successful is Agile?’ remains heavily reliant on the organisational structure along with flexibility of stakeholders to adapt to new changes.
